It's an interesting thing to think about technology and fine art. An artist asking the question about how technology effects our culture and perception is Duluth based artist David Bowen. He uses a fine art platform to discuss with viewers the reality of technology and our perception.
Bowen is intriguing because of his scientific approach to art. His current artwork is at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and showcases the emerging technology of the motion sensing input device, a.k.a. the Xbox Kinect. Using a program he takes a visual read of the wave motions on Lake Superior and transmits the data to an art piece that through robotic arms creates the same motions of the waves as that of the lake.

The concept that comes out of this artwork is a series of questions and interacts between the piece and the viewer and they ask about how we perceive the natural world around us, how does technology effect our understanding of natural and organic systems, and how do our bodies react to the man-made and technological environments as opposed to natural environments?
